Good morning friends! Do you know a family that has had a loss, is fighting a cancer diagnosis or maybe has a child on the autism spectrum and would like to get family photos done? This post will be long and is going to be about something a little sad, but I promise to end with something good that you will want to know about, so please read to the end!
(Hint, there's a giveaway involved!)
Today is my anniversary. Well, it would have been my 27th wedding anniversary. However, as some of you may know, my husband died in 2016 after a quick and ugly battle with cancer. We had always made a big deal out of our anniversary and even when he was sick, we celebrated our 24th, so this date always puts me in a bit of a sad place. I generally try to find ways to cheer myself and my kids up around this time of year - as much as I am tempted to sit on the struggle bus and watch Netflix, I know I need to do better. Scott was a fun guy and I know he'd want us to have some fun. So we have some fun things planned but this year I just have been feeling the need to do more.
I know I am not the only one facing this struggle. Other families are fighting cancer. Other families have lost a loved one. Other families have children on the spectrum and have a hard time getting photos done. I want to help. Nothing makes me happier than doing something good for someone else and I have been having ideas swirling in my mind this whole week. I think I have finally figured out a way to give back and feel good on my anniversary, and I am hoping that this can be a yearly tradition. So here are the details!!
In honor of my husband and our anniversary and the fact that I feel that everyone NEEDS to have family photos, I will be giving away THREE sessions that will include an hour long session and one 16x20 portrait.
I want to give one session to a person or family with a member who is fighting cancer.
I want to give one session to a family who has lost a loved one and hasn't had the heart to get a new family photo but they know they need one. (I'm right there with you on that one)
And finally I want to give one session to a family with a child on the autism spectrum.
These sessions will take place in March.
Here's what you can do - share this post with anyone you think might qualify. Nominate friends & family (or yourself) by sending me an email with the title HAPPY ANNIVERSARY - just tell me about the family you are nominating, send a phone picture if you can - my email is [email protected] - I need these to come through my email to stay organized. I will pick a winner in ONE week - entrance will be closed at 3 pm on February 22nd. Happy Anniversary to me!!
Here's a photo from right around our last anniversary together, celebrating 24 years. Happy anniversary Scottie, we miss you.
